After setting my mind to use only recycled containers to grow my plants in, I was delighted to find this blog, Container Gardening, by Prof. Dr. Willem Van Cotthem. There are alot of useful links about container gardening that I could refer to and I’m going to try making a self-watering container with a plastic bottle after reading his blog.
Container Gardening is later merged with his other blog, Desertification, about desertification and poverty, agriculture and horticulture in the drylands.

Hi, Marty here!
A great idea for container gardening is to mix a small amount of compost through your potting mix. Potting mix generally only supports growth for approximately 6 weeks without added slow release fertilizer.
Also a layer of compost on top of your container potting mix will store warmth in winter, keep the roots cool in summer, prevent unwanted weeds, and add lovely welcome nutrients.
Happy Gardening Marty

Hi Marty!
Thanks for dropping by and for the great tip on the compost.
Have tried to start my first batch of compost but not much success at the moment. Really looking forward to having my own compost that I could use.
Thanks for all the useful information on your website as well!
Regards!
