A great idea for container gardening is to mix a small amount of compost through your potting mix. Potting mix generally only supports growth for approximately 6 weeks without added slow release fertilizer. Also a layer of compost on top of your container potting mix will store warmth in winter, keep the roots cool in summer, prevent unwanted weeds, and add lovely welcome nutrients.
