It occured to me that I should “document” the aesthetical progress of my balcony too.
What’s a blog about my balcony without pictures of my balcony?
Yup, this is it. All 9 x 1 metres of it (29 x 3 feet).
You know when you read other gardening blogs where pictures of beautiful gardens, backyards, allotments, etc, are posted? (for the record, I am VERY envious)
Here I am, posting pictures of my balcony. Pathetic, I know. LOL.
I definitely hope to add a shelf or two to have more growing space and maybe plant boxes for the railings. Will add on as I grow along.

When I look at all the acreage others have, I’m jealous too, but although my plot (6″x14″) may feel like a postage stamp to me, I’m sure you’d love to have that much space. I think gardeners always want more.
You could utilize some of that space very well by adding trellises along the walls. Some plants–like lettuces, some beans, some herbs–can use a little shade. You could grow the snake beans up the trellis along the wall and leave the brighter sun along the railing for the tomatoes, okra, and other herbs you’ve got started.
I’m so excited to see this garden of yours grow!

I think it’s a great idea that you’ve posted photos of your balcony…and AGAIN, you are giving me inspiration to start working on mine! Now, not that I should use your blog as an “excuse” to get involved in gardening but it helps so much to feel the energy flowing from gardeners with a lot of passion.
Today I am going to go through my seed collection to see which are usable and which needs to be thrown away. And then maybe I can justify my need to purchase seeds online!

Hi Christina
Wow, 6″ x 14′ sounds like a luxury to me. I guess it’s always “the yard is bigger on the side” syndrome.
Thanks for the idea of having trellises along the wall for the snake beans. Cos they can grow to quite a height right? I was initially thinking of just keeping them where they are now, along the railing. I got it!
Thanks much!

Hi Rowena
Ooo, germination! I think it’s very excitable to plant seeds and see green peeking out of the brown soil. Can’t quite put a finger to that feeling. Great great great.
Do let us know what you’ll be growing! Feeling excited for you too!
Regards!
